What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Our focus is on neck & shoulder pain, mid back and low back pain, and certain types of headaches.

Chiropractors use manual manipulation to correct subluxations. A subluxation is a motion segment, in which alignment, movement integrity, and/or physiological function of the spine, are altered, although contact between joint surfaces remains intact. Subluxations may or may not demonstrate symptoms of pain which in Chiropractic philosophy is the last symptom to arise and not the initial which is why most Chiropractors believe in getting adjusted regularly in order to maintain health and a state of well being. This is where the concept of wellness care versus sick care comes in to the forefront.

The nervous system is a chemo-electrical grid which controls the function of every cell, tissue, and organ of the body. The nervous system begins in the brain and spinal cord and extends peripherally from our vertebrae to every organ and tissue in our body.

Historically Chiropractic philosophy believed that subluxations can cause interference to the nervous system either mechanically thru incorrect positioning of the vertebrae or via inflammation caused by mal-positioning of such vertebrae.

At 12th Street Chiropractic we use a technique which is referred to as Diversified technique to correct subluxations.
